Cyberpunk 2077: Ultimate Edition (Switch 2)
Phantom Liberty included on the 64 GB Switch 2 cart with no extra download, CDPR-account cross-progression covers PC/PS5/Xbox/Switch 2 together. The 2-hour handheld battery is the tax.
The Switch 2 build of Cyberpunk 2077 is the one with Phantom Liberty included on the cartridge. The 64 GB cart holds the full Ultimate Edition (base game plus expansion plus every published patch) with no extra download required. CDPR skipped Phantom Liberty entirely for the PS4 and Xbox One consoles, then bundled it natively into the Switch 2 cart at launch. The default PC, PS5, and Xbox SKUs sell base game only — Phantom Liberty is a separate $29.99 / £24.99 expansion on those platforms unless an Ultimate Edition is bought.
And then there is the cross-progression. A free CDPR account at cyberpunk.net syncs cloud saves across PC, PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X|S, and Nintendo Switch 2. Same account, one save corridor across four platforms. Most modern multi-platform releases either cross-save inside a single ecosystem (Xbox Play Anywhere for Microsoft, PS Plus for Sony) or do not cross-save between consoles at all. Cyberpunk covers all four, including Nintendo. The 2-hour Switch 2 handheld battery is the trade-off.
Game overview
Cyberpunk 2077 is CD Projekt Red’s open-world action RPG, set in Night City in 2077. After a difficult 2020 launch and a multi-year patch and rework programme, the game now sits in its 2.x line. The full Ultimate Edition (base game plus Phantom Liberty expansion plus every published patch including 2.3) is the package most platforms have stabilised on by mid-2026.
The Switch 2 cut of the Ultimate Edition arrived on 5 June 2025 alongside the Switch 2 console itself. Patch 2.3 reached the Switch 2 build later in 2025, which kept it in line with the PC and PS5 / Xbox feature sets it was launched alongside.
Where you can play it
Cyberpunk 2077 is on every modern platform: PC (Steam, GOG, Epic), PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X|S, and Nintendo Switch 2. The original PS4 and Xbox One versions were discontinued. Steam Deck is Verified.
The Switch 2 SKU has features no other version ships with by default. Phantom Liberty is on the 64 GB cartridge with no extra download. PS5, Xbox, and PC default builds are base-game-only, and Phantom Liberty is a separate $29.99 / £24.99 expansion purchase unless you buy an Ultimate Edition on those platforms specifically.
The Switch 2 also adds three Nintendo-specific control schemes the other platforms cannot replicate: Joy-Con 2 mouse mode (place the right Joy-Con edge-down on a flat surface for desktop-style aim and dialogue selection), a gyro aim toggle on the right Joy-Con 2 stick, and Motion Patterns (gestures for dodge, melee, and consumables). The mouse mode and gyro aim are mutually exclusive — only one runs at a time.
The PS5 Pro got its own dedicated patch on 8 April 2026, bringing PSSR 2.0 upscaling, BVH8 ray tracing, expanded RT effects (reflections, ambient occlusion, skylight, shadows, emissive), up to 90 fps Performance Mode with VRR, and 60 fps RT Mode. The Xbox Series X equivalent uplift did not ship — Series X output is still capped at 30 or 60 fps even with VRR support added in 2.3. Cyberpunk is not on Game Pass; Xbox Cloud Gaming is “stream your own” only.
Cross-saves and keeping your progress
The setup, in practical terms:
- Create a free CDPR account at cyberpunk.net. GOG account credentials work as the same login if you already have one.
- Link each platform copy (Steam, GOG, Epic, PSN, Xbox Live, Nintendo Account) once. Steam needs a manual one-time link; the others authorise on first sign-in.
- From then on, cloud saves sync automatically. A character started on PC continues on Switch 2 over lunch and continues again on PS5 in the living room with no manual transfer.
The practical read for a portable owner: pair Switch 2 with whatever home platform you already use. PC at the desk, Switch 2 on the train, PS5 in the living room. One V, one save. The CDPR account is the corridor.
Features that matter on the move
- Switch 2 handheld battery: ~2 hours 16 minutes to 2 hours 25 minutes under continuous play. One of the shortest figures in the Switch 2 catalogue. A 60W PD power bank goes in the bag for any flight or commute longer than two hours.
- Quality 30 fps and Performance 40 fps modes, both available in handheld and docked, with DLSS upscaling active in all four. Handheld Quality outputs 540p to 720p; Handheld Performance outputs 360p to 720p.
- Ray tracing is limited on Switch 2: RT reflections only. No global illumination, no RT shadows, no RT ambient occlusion. Visible if you compare side-by-side with PS5 Pro; not noticeable in handheld play at arm’s length.
- Phantom Liberty’s Dogtown exposes a CPU bottleneck the base Night City regions hide. Frame times can spike beyond 120 ms during dense Dogtown driving. Not a deal-breaker; worth knowing if you are starting fresh and Dogtown is your entry point.
- Steam Deck OLED comparison: Cyberpunk runs at roughly comparable 30 to 40 fps on both handhelds in matched settings. Switch 2 draws around 8-10 W; Deck OLED around 15 W. Deck OLED has the higher fidelity ceiling because PC settings expose more options; Switch 2 has the better battery per fps and the cross-progression that the Deck does not match without a CDPR account anyway.
- Storage: 64 GB cart, or about 57-59 GB digital install. Installs to the 256 GB internal SSD or to microSD Express. Older standard microSD cards are not compatible with the Switch 2’s express format for game installs.
- Joy-Con 2 mouse mode is the genuinely useful Switch 2 control add. UI navigation and aim both benefit. Dialogue wheels with a free cursor read closer to the PC version than to the PS5 stick-driven version. Worth noting against Pokémon Legends: Z-A, which shipped on the same Switch 2 hardware without mouse-mode support — CDPR opted in, Game Freak opted out.
Recommended setup
For docked Switch 2 play, the Switch 2 Pro Controller. For handheld, the included Joy-Con 2 — and the mouse mode is worth trying on a flat surface (tray table, café table) for combat sections that reward fast aim. For PC, the 8BitDo Pro 2 covers Switch 1, Switch 2, and PC if you want one multi-platform pad.
If you are buying the game fresh on Switch 2, the Ultimate Edition SKU is the only one Nintendo lists — Phantom Liberty is bundled, so the comparison against PC / PS5 / Xbox is base+expansion vs base-only at the same price.

Verdict
The Switch 2 build of Cyberpunk 2077 is the most surprising port of 2025: full Ultimate Edition on a cartridge, free CDPR-account cross-progression with PC and the other consoles, Joy-Con 2 mouse mode that actually adds to the experience. The 2-hour handheld battery is the cost of that fidelity and that bundle, not a flaw to fix. Pair it with a home platform via the CDPR account, carry a 60W PD power bank, and the result is the rare multi-platform RPG where the Nintendo cut is the best-value SKU on a per-pound-per-feature basis.

Cross-save & travel progress
- CDPR account (free, sign-up at cyberpunk.net) syncs cloud saves across PC, PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X|S, and Nintendo Switch 2. Same account, same save corridor across all four platforms.
- GOG account works as the same login as the CDPR account.
- Steam saves require one-time linking to the CDPR account, then they sync via the same path.
- The Switch 2 Ultimate Edition is the only Cyberpunk SKU that ships Phantom Liberty bundled by default. PS5, Xbox, and PC default builds are base game; the expansion is a separate purchase on those platforms unless an Ultimate Edition is bought.
