How to Play Games Whilst On The Move
Explore game availability across Switch, Steam Deck, PC and mobile platforms.
-
Citizen Sleeper
A cycle-based narrative RPG with no real-time pressure, which makes it close to the ideal handheld game once you pick a home for it. Saves are siloed per platform, but every copy ships feature-complete with all three free story episodes built in.
Platforms, cross-save, and availability
-
Dead Cells
The roguelite that runs well on every handheld going, and a rare thing in 2026: a finished game. Development wrapped in 2024, so you buy the complete article. The catch for multi-device players is zero cross-save, not even between iOS and Android.
Platforms, cross-save, and availability
-
Hades
Supergiant's roguelite is the rare multi-device game that shares a save. Own it on PC and Switch and your progress syncs both ways: grind at your desk, finish the run on the sofa. The catch is which platforms get the bridge.
Platforms, cross-save, and availability
-
Star Fox (Switch 2)
The first Star Fox in years, a Switch 2 exclusive remake of Star Fox 64, out 25 June 2026. Now the reviews are in: the headline Joy-Con mouse aiming is a desk-and-multiplayer feature, not a handheld one, so on the move you play with the buttons.
Platforms, cross-save, and availability
-
Vampire Survivors
The bullet-heaven roguelite that is free on your phone and a couple of dollars on PC. It has cross-save across almost every platform, but two catches: you sync it by hand, and your paid DLC does not travel with the save.
Platforms, cross-save, and availability
-
Into the Breach
Subset Games' turn-based mech tactics, on Steam, Switch, and free on your phone through Netflix. The catch nobody mentions: none of the three versions share a save. Pick the island you want to live on before you start a campaign.
Platforms, cross-save, and availability
-
Slay the Spire
The deck-building roguelike that defined the genre, on nearly everything: PC, Switch, PlayStation, Xbox, iOS, and Android. It has no cross-save anywhere, and the iOS version won't even sync between your own iPhone and iPad. Climb the Spire on one device and stay there.
Platforms, cross-save, and availability
-
Donkey Kong Bananza
The Super Mario Odyssey team's first Switch 2 platformer. Voxel destruction is real, Pauline rides on DK's shoulder, and the no-cloud-save disclaimer that briefly haunted pre-launch coverage was dropped before release.
Platforms, cross-save, and availability
-
Hollow Knight: Silksong
Team Cherry's Metroidvania finally landed in September 2025, and it is on every platform at once. The portable catch is not performance: it runs beautifully on handhelds. It is the cross-save. Steam Cloud covers PC and Steam Deck, Xbox Play Anywhere covers Xbox and PC, but your Switch save and your PlayStation save are islands.
Platforms, cross-save, and availability
-
Pokémon Champions
The Pokémon Company's battle-only competitive game is the rare Pokémon release built for the multi-device player: Switch, Switch 2, and mobile share one matchmaking pool, and your teams follow you across them through your Nintendo Account. The catch is that it is almost entirely online, with no offline practice mode.
Platforms, cross-save, and availability
-
Pokémon Legends: Z-A
Game Freak's first real-time-battle mainline Pokémon, set entirely in Lumiose City. Pokémon HOME connectivity runs both ways, but a Pokémon that has been in Z-A can never go back to an older game like Scarlet/Violet or Sword/Shield.
Platforms, cross-save, and availability
-
Sid Meier's Civilization VII
A 4X strategy game sounds desktop-bound, but Civ VII is the rare one with genuine cross-platform saves through a 2K Account and a Switch 2 build with Joy-Con mouse control, so the same campaign follows you from PC to handheld. The catch: a rough launch that the May 2026 Test of Time patch finally addressed.
Platforms, cross-save, and availability
-
Clair Obscur: Expedition 33
Sandfall's debut JRPG swept every major 2025-26 Game of the Year award. The portable picture as of June 2026 is PC handhelds: Steam Deck Verified, ROG Ally and Ally X tuned.
Platforms, cross-save, and availability
-
Cyberpunk 2077: Ultimate Edition (Switch 2)
Phantom Liberty included on the 64 GB Switch 2 cart with no extra download, CDPR-account cross-progression covers PC/PS5/Xbox/Switch 2 together. The 2-hour handheld battery is the tax.
Platforms, cross-save, and availability
-
Lorelei and the Laser Eyes
Simogo's puzzle-mystery. The rare 2026 release where buying it on the original Switch was forward-compatible: the Switch 2 Edition is free for existing owners, and the performance bump is real.
Platforms, cross-save, and availability
-
Metroid Prime 4: Beyond
Retro Studios' return to Prime. Save Stations only on a handheld game, so plan your stop point. The Switch 2 mouse-mode aim is the genuine reason to take the Upgrade Pack.
Platforms, cross-save, and availability
-
Tactical Breach Wizards
Turn-based tactics with rewindable turns, by the team behind Gunpoint and Heat Signature. Steam Deck Verified, but the Steam Cloud sync is listed and not actually working. Pack a USB stick if you play on two machines.
Platforms, cross-save, and availability
-
Mario Kart World
The first Mario Kart with a connected open-world map. The Switch 2 launch-day system-seller, twelve months on, still the game most Switch 2 owners are actually playing.
Platforms, cross-save, and availability
-
Animal Well
GOTY-contender Metroidvania puzzle box. Sole-developer pixel art that looks better on Switch 2 than on Switch.
Platforms, cross-save, and availability
-
Balatro
Poker-roguelike that earns its hype. The best portable game of the last two years.
Platforms, cross-save, and availability
-

Action-roguelike that reaches almost every device you own. The cross-save corridor only opens for Nintendo though: read before you commit a platform.
Platforms, cross-save, and availability
-
Pizza Tower
Hand-drawn momentum platformer in the spirit of Wario Land 4. Made for short, intense portable bursts.
Platforms, cross-save, and availability
