The right kit is what keeps a portable setup running once you leave the house. This guide covers the accessories worth packing across a Steam Deck, Switch, tablet, or phone. Updated for 2026.
One current note before the list: if you’re flying, the power-bank rules changed in 2026 (capacity limits and a restriction on charging in-flight). The long-haul flight guide has the detail, and it affects which power bank you buy.
Power and charging
- A USB-C PD power bank (65W or higher) to keep a Steam Deck, Switch, or tablet alive on a long day out. Check it’s flight-legal before you travel.
- A compact 65W or higher wall charger with interchangeable plugs for international trips.
- Short USB-C cables for lower resistance and a tidier bag.
Video and networking
- A USB-C hub or travel dock with HDMI and Ethernet for hotel TVs.
- A travel router to turn hotel Ethernet into your own Wi-Fi and keep your devices isolated.
- A flat HDMI cable for tight hotel TV mounts.
Controllers and input
- An Xbox or DualSense pad for broad compatibility; an 8BitDo for compact travel.
- Phone or tablet clips, or a kickstand, for better ergonomics.
- Spare thumb grips and screen protectors for handhelds.
Carry and protection
- A hard-shell case for handhelds, and slim sleeves for tablets.
- A cable organiser to stop tangles and lost adapters.
- A folding stand for tablets and for Switch tabletop mode.
